A watch party, made with love.

CineNest is a free watch party app for your own movies and series. Create a room, send the link, and everyone watches the same film perfectly in sync, in its original quality up to 4K, with chat, reactions floating over the picture, and voice or video calls. There’s nothing to sign up for or install, and your videos are never uploaded.

Why it exists

CineNest began as a labour of love: it was made for Pragya Jain, for movie nights together. We’re in a long-distance relationship, deeply in love, with too many kilometres between us. Some evenings all we wanted was what couples in the same city take for granted: to pick a film, settle in, and watch it side by side.

We tried everything. Screen-sharing turned our favourite films into a blurry, stuttering slideshow. Browser extensions only worked with certain streaming sites, and only if both of us had the same subscription. Most nights ended with us counting “3, 2, 1, play” over a call and drifting a few seconds apart, one of us laughing at a scene the other hadn’t reached yet. Nothing was made for two people who simply wanted to be together for a couple of hours.

So I built the place we couldn’t find. The real file in its full quality, starting on the same frame on both screens. A squeeze of the hand across the distance, reactions floating over the picture, our faces in the corner, and a recap at the end to keep. An evening that feels like a night in together rather than a video call. That’s why the same couple appears in every hand-drawn scene on the site, by the lighthouse, along the river, on a rooftop and under the lanterns: it’s us, and every couple like us who are far apart but still want their movie nights.

How it works

• Everyone has the file? Each person plays their own copy and only play, pause and seek are shared.
• Only you have it? Your browser streams the original file straight to your friends, peer to peer and encrypted. It never touches our servers.
• Got a link? Paste it and everyone plays it in sync.
• Frame-tight sync from a shared clock and tiny, inaudible speed nudges keeps everyone within a few frames.
• Plays everywhere. If a phone or browser can’t play a file as-is, CineNest converts it live.
