Privacy Policy
Last updated 2 November 2026
CineNest (cinenest.live) is run by PlusOneDevelopers (“we”, “us”). It is built to know as little about you as possible. This policy explains exactly what is stored, where, and for how long.
The short version
- No accounts and no ads. Analytics cookies only if you allow them, and never on what you watch or say.
- Your videos, voice and camera go directly between the browsers in your room, encrypted. They never reach our servers.
- Our server keeps a room’s chat and playback state only while it’s in use, and deletes it 12 hours after everyone leaves.
- Your name, settings and movie-night history stay in your own browser.
What our server stores, and for how long
While a room exists, our server keeps only what it needs to run it:
- the display name, colour and seat each person chooses, and a random ID for their browser;
- whether each person is in voice, muted, or has their camera on;
- the latest 200 chat messages and their reactions, and the room’s reactions to the movie;
- the title, size and length of what’s playing and, for a pasted link, the link itself;
- the text of any subtitle file someone shares with the room;
- playback state such as play, pause, position and breaks.
Anyone with a room’s link can see who is in it and what is playing before they join. All of this is deleted automatically 12 hours after the last person leaves, or after 1 hour if nobody ever joins.
What never reaches our servers
- Your video files. Everyone plays their own copy, or the host’s browser streams the file directly to friends over an encrypted peer-to-peer (WebRTC) connection.
- Your voice and camera. These also travel directly between browsers, encrypted. Face framing runs on your own device, and when your camera is on only the square around your face is sent to the people in your room.
When two browsers can’t connect directly, their encrypted traffic may be relayed through Cloudflare’s TURN service, which passes it on without being able to read it.
What’s stored in your browser
Your name, colour, seat, a random ID, your settings (such as volume, microphone mode and sounds) and “Our shelf”, the history of movie nights you’ve finished together, including small still frames. These live in your browser’s local storage and are never sent to us. Your answer to the analytics question is kept there too. You can delete all of it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser. The only cookies are Google Analytics’, and only if you allow them.
Analytics, only if you allow it
On your first visit we ask whether we may use Google Analytics to learn how people find CineNest and which pages help them. If you decline, or don’t answer, it is never loaded. If you accept:
- Google Analytics sets cookies (
_gaand_ga_*) in your browser to recognise repeat visits. - Google receives the pages you open on cinenest.live, the site that sent you here, your browser, device, screen size and language, and an approximate location that Google derives from your IP address. Room links are reduced to “/r/room” before anything is sent, so room IDs never reach Google.
- Nothing from inside a room is ever sent: not your videos or their names, voice, camera, chat, reactions or subtitles.
- Google’s advertising features (Google signals and ad personalisation) are switched off, so the data is not used for ads. We keep it for at most 14 months.
You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page; withdrawing consent deletes the cookies and stops the measurement. Google processes this data, possibly in the United States, under Google’s privacy policy.
Services that help run CineNest
- Cloudflare hosts the site and the rooms. Like any web server, it processes your IP address and request details to deliver the service and protect it from abuse, and keeps short-lived operational logs. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- Connection helpers (STUN). To set up direct connections, your browser asks STUN servers run by Cloudflare and Google for its public address, so they see your IP address.
- Google Analytics, only if you allow it, as described above.
- Links you paste. Each person’s browser fetches the video directly from that website, under its own privacy policy.
We do not sell personal data or share it with anyone beyond the services above, and we don’t use it for advertising or profiling.
Your rights
Wherever you are, including under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us to access, correct or erase your personal data, and raise a grievance. Because there are no accounts, most data deletes itself; to have a room’s data removed sooner, email feedback@cinenest.live with the room link and we’ll respond within 30 days.
Children
CineNest is not intended for children. If you are under 18, please use it only with the permission of a parent or guardian.
Changes
If we change how CineNest handles data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
